Cinquefoil, or Potentilla, is a large genus, including a number of shrubby plants with foliage and flowers often compared to those of the strawberry. The perennial plant forms a nice clump that is covered with brightly colored flowers in shades of yellow, orange, pinks, and reds, blooming for a long period from early to late summer. Cinquefoil makes an excellent rock garden plant or for the front of the border. Mounds of low maintenance, strawberry-like leaves add a pleasing texture to complement other plants in the garden. Cinquefoil can be planted in areas of full to part sun and a variety of soil types. A really lovely addition to the flower bed!
