SEDUM/ HEN & CHICKS (SEMPERVIVUM)
With Sedum, the diversity of colors, shapes, and forms seems endless. Another name for Sedum is Stonecrop, a common native among the rocks of the Wind River foothills. The varieties we carry here at Sprouts look a little different then the one you would find naturally, but they do pack a punch with their beauty. Sedums are rugged, cold hardy succulents that are extremely drought tolerant. There are many varieties of small ground cover types to taller, more stately varieties. They produce clumps of tiny blooms in mid to late summer that attract butterflies and bees like no other!
Sempervivum, or Hen & Chicks, form neat little rosettes of a main 'Hen' with many little offshoots, or 'Chicks'. A hardy perennial, they tuck in nicely next to rocks and crevices. They also work well as houseplants. Just make sure to give them lots of light.
Sedums and Sempervivums like bright light and prefer drier, well drained areas in full sun. Rock gardens are a perfect place for these unique perennials!
