foam flower
Foamflower (Tiarella) is one of the showiest spring wildflowers, native to the woodlands and forests of the eastern United States, but can also be grown in the mountain west. A beautiful addition to the shade garden, the starry white flower spikes are often accented with a tinge of pink. Foliage is also quite attractive, and will change to shades of red and burgundy in the fall. Foamflowers do require a rich soil that is well-drained, with consistent moisture. Light shade or dappled light is best. It looks great massed along a border, and also combines well with other shade-loving plants like Hostas, Coral Bells, and Ferns.
