HARDY HIBISCUS

Hardy hibiscus (Hibiscus moscheutos), also known as Rose Mallow, are cold-tolerant, perennials known for their massive, dinner-plate-sized flowers in shades of red, pink, and white, contrasting beautifully with green or dark purple foliage. They die back to the ground in winter but return in spring, offering huge blooms from midsummer until frost. Hummingbirds and pollinating bees are attracted to the colorful flowers, but deer typically pass them by. Hardy hibiscus is best planted in a full-sun spot with well-drained soil enriched with compost. They are one of the latest plants to break dormancy, as they need temperatures above 50 degrees before growth will appear. But the wait is worth it for these tropical looking beauties!
