Cucumbers are a creeping vine that produces long slender fruits with a refreshingly crisp flavor. There are types that require trellis supports and some patio types that grow perfect in containers. Burpless varieties are thin skinned, and contain less of the compound cucurbitacin which can make cucumbers bitter and difficult to digest. Cucumbers grow quickly and require minimum care, just be sure to plant in full sun in well draining soil, and provide with plenty of water. They are frost sensitive, be sure to cover or wait to plant until weather has warmed up for the season.
