ROSES
Growing rose bushes in Wyoming is not as hard as some people might think. There are actually many very hardy types (zone 3 & 4) that work well in our climate, from sprawling ground covers, miniatures, upright shrub forms, and even climbers! These beautiful plants are covered in blooms all season long and require very little maintenance. Trim the dead branches in spring to maintain shape and deadhead the spent blooms periodically. In the fall, leave some spent blooms on the plant and you will be rewarded with glowing orange rose hips.
Hybrid Tea roses, on the other hand, are not quite as hardy. They are typically a zone 5/6 and will require a little more care. For the avid gardener, all it takes is good ground preparation, adequate winter protection, and attention for these lovely, long stemmed beauties.
