CARAGANA (SIBERIAN PEA SHRUB)
If you want a hardy drought resistant shrub, Caraganas are a great choice. They make an excellent hedge plant, and are a "nitrogen fixer"- they will improve the soil where they are planted. Caraganas also work well as a wind break in difficult locations. Small yellow flowers adorn the plants in the spring with an added bonus of attracting pollinators. The common Caragana works well for a tall hedge, and there are dwarf varieties that are perfect for foundation or mixed plantings.
