CHOKECHERRY

The Chokecherry shrub/ small tree bears 3 to 6-inch long creamy white blooms in the spring, which become dark red fleshy fruit, maturing into a dark purple black color with a pit in the center. This fruit is used to make jams, jellies, syrups and wines. The bark has at times been used to flavor cough syrups. The pit of the chokecherry is poisonous and should not be ingested.  A popular Wyoming Native shrub valued for both ornamental and edible qualities.
