RHUBARB
The delightful taste of fresh rhubarb pie is undeniably one of the greatest pleasures of summer. Growing rhubarb is easy in northern climates and the plant adds an architectural element to the garden with its big, crinkly leaves and bright red, edible stalks. Rhubarb is a large plant, be sure to give it plenty of room to grow and spread. Rhubarb plants produce a harvest for up to 8 years, so grow it in a sunny area where it will be undisturbed for a long time. Make sure to add plenty of organic matter to the soil, Rhubarb is a heavy feeder and will benefit greatly from improved soil conditions and regular fertilizing. Plants can be divided every 5-10 years for a continual supply of fresh Rhubarb for many decades. Rhubarb can be harvested lightly the second year after planting and by year three you will have a nice crop.
